Trained for a Private Pilot Licence with GoFly between 2017 and 2019, mostly in a PA28. Held a UK PPL (CAA) from 2020 to 2023. Checklists, weather and decisions under load transfer to the day job.

    "He works really well against The Black Death"

    In aviation, "The Black Death" (Schwarze Tod) was the terrifying nickname given by German forces to the Soviet Ilyushin Il-2 Sturmovik during World War II. It was a heavily armoured ground-attack aircraft. It was notorious for its ability to survive devastating damage, fly incredibly low to the ground to dodge radar, and perform brutal, aggressive manoeuvres (like its famous "Circle of Death" tactic) to eliminate targets.

    The ex-RAF combat pilot and now the aerobatics rating instructor, flying closely on the wing of another aircraft, means the aerobatic handling mimics the historical tactics used to counter or dominate aggressive airspace.

In September 2026 I started a part-time BSc in AI and Machine Learning at Amsterdam Tech, alongside the job, through 2030. AI is changing how the payments work gets done, and I want to use it properly in the work. It comes first after work and family.
